Obituary of George PROST

GEORGE JOHN PROST Peacefully on July 12, 2008, George Prost passed away at the age of 93. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Helen (nee Warnick) and his four children: Randy (Alice), Rick (Carla and Shane), Debbie (Sandy), Kimberly and granddaughter, Samantha. Predeceased by his son Brian in l953. He is also survived by one brother Frank and many nieces and nephews. George was born in Winnipeg, one of ten children born to Andrew and Amelia Prost. He was educated in Winnipeg attending St. Joseph's and St. Paul's schools. During the Second World War George was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Following his service to his country he continued his apprenticeship with his father at Shea's Brewery. George attained managerial status with Labatt's Brewery and then progressed to ownership and management in the Hotel business in the provinces of Manitoba and British Columbia. George was an avid golfer and curler. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing baseball. He served as President of the Manitoba Hotel Association and the Red River Exhibition. He was a long time supporter of the Kidney Foundation, a lifetime Board Member at the Holy Family Home and German Businessmen's Association. Anyone who was lucky to know George will remember him for his kind, generous nature, his optimistic outlook on life, his unshakable faith and tenacity in good causes. His great spirit of working in the community and the example he set have inspired and will continue to inspire. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Home Care, Comforts of Home, Grace Hospital (4th floor), Misericordia Hospital (5th floor) and the staff at the St. Pauls Unit at Holy Family Home, who always treated George with the utmost care, concern, understanding and dignity. His family will always remember him most for his unwavering love and support even in the most difficult of times. A funeral mass and celebration of his life will take place on Friday, July 18, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Mother Of The Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Fort Garry. The service will terminate at the Church. In lieu of flowers donations in George's memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Manitoba.
