Obituary of Joseph Rieger
Joseph Victor Rieger
October 1, 1918 - August 21, 2008
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Joe was predeceased by his parents John and Mary, brothers John and George, and sister Adeline.
Left to mourn his passing is the love of his life Rita, sons Garry (Linda), Brian (Linda May), Keith (Audrey), grandchildren, Ryan, Kari, Jennifer, Tammy, Damien, great grandchildren, Gibson, Jewel, Jackson, Kavin, Ava, and Jordan, brother Victor (Mary), sisters Helen and Theresa, sister-in-law Emma, and extended relatives.
He was born in Alberta, but shortly after his birth his family moved to Winnipeg where he spent the rest of his life. After a couple of jobs, Joe was employed with the City Of Winnipeg for 43 years and enjoyed spending the last couple of years with the City training heavy equipment operators. He was an active member of the civic union. Joe was very handy working around the house, loved gardening, and enjoyed frequent fishing trips with his sons. He loved socializing, dancing and was always ready for a party. He also enjoyed chatting with the ladies working at Polo Park while Rita was shopping. Joe was an active member of St. Alphonsus Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and spent many years working at St Alphonsus' Thursday night bingo. Other activities that Joe enjoyed were playing cards, bowling, Saturday evening BBQs, Sunday drives and trips across the line.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bethania Personal Care Home for their loving care.
Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, corner of Munroe and Brazier in East Kildonan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
