Obituary of JoÃo RODRIGUES
JOO DEUS RODRIGUES
Peacefully on October 23, 2008, Joo passed away at the Health Sciences Hospital at the age of 74 years.
Joo is survived by his loving wife Alda; children John (Lisete), Elaine (Dale) Melanson, Evangie (Martin) Costa, Tony and Emanuel; grandchildren Vanessa, Matthew, Darren, Veronica, Brydgete and Ryan; brothers and sister in Winnipeg: Piedade, Antonio, Manuel; brothers and sister in Portugal: Jos, Simo, Gorette and Duarte; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Joo (John) was born in So Miguel, Acores, the second of eight children. John's ambition to make a better life for himself and his young family led him to decide to emigrate to Winnipeg in 1960. His love of cows, horses and dairy farming stayed with him for his entire life and he loved to return to his roots. John's courage and belief in God helped him overcome great personal tragedy. John took great joy in immersing himself in the love of his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family. His favorite pastime was enjoying a good game of "sueca". John was a compassionate caring man who was happiest when he knew others were happy.
The family would like to thank Dr. Rubinger, Tiffany and the GB3 medical team at the Health Sciences Centre for their compassion and care.
Prayers will be said on Monday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. N. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 28 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church with Very Rev. Jos Eduardo Medeiros, V.F. as Celebrant. Interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.cropo.com.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in Joo's memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
Rest in peace Pe, until we meet again.
