Obituary of Ronald Russell

RONALD RUSSELL It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Ron Russell, loving husband and father at the age of 68 on March 24, 2011. Ron passed away peacefully at Riverview Healthcare Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He will be dearly missed by his wife Joan, daughter Jackie, brother Bill (Debbie), sisters Sharon (Ray), Rosalie (Jeff), sisters-in-law Darlene (Vince), Marilyn (Don) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Fran and his father Tache. Ron was born in Yellowknife, NWT on August 2, 1942. As a young boy Ron moved to Prince Albert, SK. It was there that he met his wife Joan of 40 years. They were married and resided in Winnipeg, MB. Ron was extremely proud of his daughter Jackie and her many accomplishments. Although Ron left Prince Albert, it always held a special place in his heart. We would often spend summer vacations in P.A. with Auntie Nancy and Uncle Warren that were filled with memories that will be forever treasured. Ron dedicated many years of service to Canada Post where he worked with his best friend and brother Bill until retirement in 2002. Ron was an extremely friendly and kind-hearted man. Whether you were family, friend, or a complete stranger, he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He always did more than what was required and consistently placed the needs of others ahead of his own. He genuinely cared about people and in return, people genuinely cared about him. Ron had a passion for reading and learning and loved watching old movies, particularly westerns and war documentaries. Ron also was a very talented cook, he loved cooking for others and was always experimenting in the kitchen. Everyone looked forward to his holiday dinners. To Dr. Maksymiuk, your devoted care and concern for Ron over the years meant so much to him as well as his family, and also to Dr. Ross and Dr. Wong for helping him through an extremely challenging and difficult time. Your hard work and dedication was much appreciated. A heartfelt thank-you to CancerCare Manitoba and staff at Seven Oaks Hospital 4-Unit 5. There is a special kind of feeling, that is meant for you alone, a place within our hearts, that only you can own, there will always be sadness and often a silent tear, but always special memories, of the days when you were hear. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ron's memory can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. As per Ron's wishes cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held to celebrate Ron's life. There are so many cherished memories we will keep forever in our hearts. Cropo Funeral Chape 1442 Main Street l586-8044
