Obituary of Marjorie Sass
MARJORIE ISABEL SASS (nee CHAPMAN) It is with great sadness, that we announce the sudden passing of Marge Sass at the age of 80 on March 25, 2011 at Health Sciences Centre, beloved Wife and soul mate to Stan for 56 years, Mom to Connie (Rick) Clarke, Janice (Jim) Sandison, and Grandmother to Jillian, Carley, Jessica and Jamie. She is also survived by niece, Virginia Blondin and nephew, Matthew Blondin and her best friend Lou McCorrie. She was predeceased by her son, John Sass, and parents Rebecca and Albert Chapman. Over the years Marge and Stan and the kids had the chance to move to many places and make many friends and memories, from Dauphin to Montreal, Capreol, Oakville and Winnipeg, Mom made every place a Home. Marge began her career in her youth with Salter Drugs where she met Stan. Over the years, when back in Winnipeg she returned to work for the Kronsons at the new Metro Drugs chain as head cosmetologist and buyer. These times allowed her to meet some new people and form lasting friendships. One of her favourite places was the family cottage at Grand Marais, where she spent many summers with her own children growing up and later with her grandchildren. She took great pride in her flowers and gardens and enjoyed spending time on the deck with family, especially her annual birthday celebration, and bridge club parties. A favourite cottage pastime was watching the numerous different birds that visited the feeder. Marge loved a good party, and believed strongly in traditions. She enjoyed planning family gatherings around holidays and especially looked forward to Easter celebrations, as it was one holiday that we could get everyone together. Grandma was known for her baking skills, especially her famous chocolate chip cookies, her Christmas dainties and rum balls and her birthday money cakes. Marge looked forward to her weekly bridge games with her friends, always enjoying them even though she rarely won. She loved taking in her favourite TV soaps and Regis daily. Marge and Stan and our family spent many special times with their best friends Red and Lou McCorrie, including great times at Big Whiteshell, where they had the opportunity to make many more friends that they continued to spend time with over the years both at Whiteshell and the annual Lundar golfing event. Upon retirement, Marge and Stan travelled to Hawaii, Arizona, and then spent 18 winters in Seagrove Beach and Destin Florida. It was there that Mom honed her shopping skills, giving new meaning to finding the great deal, Coupon books, Senior day discounts and the infamous call to action, 'go to the back of the store'. She enjoyed the Florida beach, sunsets and especially the sound of the surf and looked forward to returning year after year. Mom was very involved in her family's lives, following her kids and grandkids interests and activities, and their comings and goings. Mom had the ability to find out so much that no one else knew and she was fondly referred to as the Queen of 20 questions. The family would like to extend special thanks to the emergency staff from Sacred Heart Hospital in Destin Florida and to the nurses and aides at Health Sciences Centre Wards GH5, GD2 and RR6 in Winnipeg for their kindness and compassion in the care of Marge. A celebration of Marge's life will take place Wednesday, March 30 at 2:00 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Winnipeg, with Rev. Don McIntyre officiating. Interment will follow at a future date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society of Canada, or a charity of their choice. Mom's passion for life, laughter and family will be remembered and cherished forever.
