Obituary of JACINTO DE MEDEIROS FREITAS
JACINTO DE MEDEIROS FREITAS
Jacinto passed away peacefully on March 8th, 2012 at the age of 70, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his children Isabel, Cesar, Jacob (Eleanore) and Pedro (Anne); grandchildren Christopher and Chelsea (their father Paul), Maria, Mark, Eleanore and extended family in Winnipeg. He is also missed by his sisters Libania Sousa and Maria Do Espirito Santo Melo, extended family in both Fall River, Mass., and Sao Miguel, Portugal.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Maria De Deus, parents Manuel De Melo and Julia De Medeiros Freitas, and siblings Manuel, Madelena, Isabel, Julia, and Antonio.
Jacinto was born in Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal, where he grew up and served in the army. He met and married his wife there prior to moving to Winnipeg in 1973 with their children Isabel and Cesar. After moving to Winnipeg their family expanded with the arrival of Jacob and Pedro. Pops enjoyed playing cards and dominos, following his Futebol team Benfica, watching old westerns and was not a stranger to Dilly Bars in the sunshine with his family.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff of the Manitoba Palliative Care Program and the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit for the care and compassion Jacinto received.
Viewing and Prayer Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13th and Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14th also at Cropo Funeral Chapel. Interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Liver Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
