Obituary of Elizabeth SEREDYNSKI

ELIZABETH ERNESTINE SEREDYNSKI (SHUMILAK) Elizabeth Seredynski, aged 93, passed away peacefully at Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, AB, April 12, 2010. She lived the past five years with her daughter Bridgette and family in Calgary. Elizabeth took great joy in having many of her family members visiting her prior to her stroke. We wish to thank her Homecare givers in Winnipeg and Calgary who treated her with compassion and respect. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, April 21 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 22 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Ave., with Fr. Geoffrey Angeles officiating and Msgr. Stan Jaworski, P.H. concelebrating. Interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. Pallbearers are her grandsons Eugene, Eric, Anthony, Bryan, Tyler, and Troy. Honorary pallbearers are all other grandchildren and spouses. She was predeceased by parents Elzbieta and Jan Szumilak, brothers Walter, John, Bill, Carl; sisters Helen Vogel and Victoria Tolosko; husband Henry Seredynski (1992), son Stephen (1962), great-granddaughter Raelyn Gruszecki (2002), and Lawrence Warwaruk (2007). She is survived by daughter Dorothy Warwaruk—Bridgette Zacharias (Scott), Jack, Brielle; Lawrence (Erin), Siri, Roan; Linda Tambakis (Rev. Fr. Nikolaos), Dimitri, Xenia; Christopher (Lisa), Ava, Coden; Eugene (Pamela), Bernadette, Eric; son Leonard (JoAnne)—Kathryn, Jacob; Anthony (Carla); son Allen (Wilma)—Jason, June; Kurt (Muylan), Roman; Bryan (Vara), Ashleigh, Tristan, Brody, Tyson; Tyler; daughter Bridgette Gruszecki (John)—Darin, Nikolai; Oden (Michelle), Justin, Megan, Evan, Kaitlyn; Troy; and many other relatives and friends. Elizabeth was born on August 16, 1916, grew up on a family farm near Cloverleaf, MB and attended Hazelglen School not far from the farm. She met Henry Seredynski at a house dance near Beausejour MB. She was wearing a red dress that caught his eye. They married in 1939 after Henry sold a cow to buy the wedding ring. They had four children and moved to Winnipeg in the fall of 1949.A fifth child Stephen was born in Winnipeg. She enjoyed her part-time job at the Children's Hospital as a nurse's aide. Upon moving to Winnipeg Elizabeth and Henry joined St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church. Elizabeth and Henry were devout Catholics and active in various church activities and groups. Elizabeth was a life-long member of the Catholic Women's League. Elizabeth was a very spiritual person and had a deep and personal trust in God. She found great peace in prayer and believed in the power of prayer. Her rosary was always by her side and she used it regularly. She served as a role model for her family through the meaning she found in God, which provided her with an abiding love and faith for life and humanity. She accepted her physical trials with serenity, trusting always in God's will. She moved on peacefully into God's arms five days after her stroke, as she always trusted she would. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society. Divine Mercy, accompanying us every moment of our life, I Trust in You.
