Obituary of Cassandra Skomoroh

Cassandra Marcia Skomoroh "Bunny" 1997-2009 Peacefully, with Mom and Dad at her side, on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, Cassandra "Bunny" Skomoroh passed away, at the age of 12 years. Left to mourn Cassandra's passing are her parents, Annette and Walter Skomoroh, grand-mothers, Marcia Skomoroh and Ann Hebert, Uncle Darren and Aunty Tracey, cousins Claire and Jack; Aunt Louise, cousins Raymond and Laura. She will also be missed by numerous great aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as countless friends. Cassandra was predeceased by her grandfathers, Louis Hebert and Walter Skomoroh Sr., and her Uncle Kennedy. Cassandra came into this world October 3, 1997, three months early, and fought for survival against the odds, an early testament to her strong spirit and will to live. Her many medical needs and struggles never deterred her zest for living. Cassandra always had a smile on her face and twinkle in her eyes, which spread joy to all those who knew her. She loved listening to all kinds of music, camping with Mom, Dad and Grandma, watching her dad's Slo-pitch games, and playing her great collection of pianos! Cassandra loved long walks and riding her new Duet bicycle, generously donated by Make-A-Wish. Cassandra was fortunate enough to take part in a Dreams Take Flight trip to Disneyworld, among many other trips with Mom and Dad, including her brief stay in Banff. One of Cassandra's greatest pleasures was attending Harold Hatcher Elementary School. We are grateful to the many friends, teachers and staff members, who created a safe, stimulating and enjoyable environment for Cassandra. Special thanks to all the students who read Cassandra's favourite books to her. We know that these were some of her most special moments! Another support system that helped Cassandra thrive was respite, provided by Home Care. We can never thank the nurses enough for the dedication and loving care they gave Cassandra. Each nurse brought her own gifts into Cassandra's life, and each had an immeasurable impact. Thank you Iona, Debra, Juliana, Dorothy, Judy, Janet, Ainsley and Darcy! We would also like to recognize the efforts of Alvina, Pat and Cindy. Cassandra would not have lived to experience and spread joy without receiving the best medical care available! Special thanks to Dr. Nigel MacDonald, Cassandra's primary physician since birth. Thank you to the countless doctors, nurses and support staff from NICU, PICU, Cancer Care, Paediatric Respiratory Department, Paediatric Urology and Rehabilitation Centre for Children; as well as the many other organizations that have assisted throughout Cassandra's journey. A celebration of Cassandra's life will be held Sunday, November 29th, at 1:00 p.m., Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Cassandra to the Children's Rehabilitation Foundation, 633 Wellington Crescent, Winnipeg, MB, R3M 0A8. "Today is gone. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one. Every day, from here to there, funny things are everywhere." Dr. Seus
