Obituary of ALINA NAWROCKI
ALINA NAWROCKI
March 23, 1918 - October 01, 2011
After a brief illness Alina Nawrocki passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, October 1. Left behind to mourn her passing are her children Krystyna (Bogumil), Tadeusz (Jill), Stefan (Janice); grandchildren Barbara and Marek, as well as sisters and extended family in Poland, Australia and the U.S.A.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband and partner in life Winicjusz, her parents, an older sister and two brothers.
Her life in Stawiszyn, Poland as a young child and adult was relatively settled and unremarkable until the outbreak of World War II. She and her family were dispossessed from their home. Alina was exiled to Germany and indentured to farm labour. At war's end she met her future husband in a displaced persons camp, married and started her family. Her next major challenge was immigration to Canada and adjusting to a totally new world and cultural experience in Winnipeg's North End. She accomplished that with great success. Always of quiet and unassuming character, her focus in life was looking after her family, working outside the home as well as being a dedicated and expert homemaker. Outside of family, her other main interests centered on her faith commitment: she was an active member of Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Parish and the Rosary Sodality. She was a lifetime member of St. John Cantius Fraternal Aid Society, including the Seniors Club, and a long-time subscriber to the Polish community newspaper, CZAS-Polish Times.
Though illness and a debilitating condition in the last few years had removed Alina from her familiar neighbourhood and active participation in community events, she was always fondly remembered and greeted by those who knew her. The family would like to express its gratitude to the provincial Home Care services particularly Maryanna, Case Coordinator, and workers Pauline, Allegria and Susan for the care and assistance provided.
Viewing and prayers will be at Holy Ghost Church, 341 Selkirk Ave, Saturday, 08 October at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with an Oblate Father presiding. The service will conclude at the church.
Flowers are gratefully declined; donations in Alina's memory may be made to Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Parish for the Sunday Polish Mass Broadcast on Radio CKJS810.
