Obituary of Clara SOMOGYI
CLARA SOMOGYI
On April 17, 2011, Clara passed away in Winnipeg at the age of 81 years.
Clara is survived by her loving daughters Klara and Eva; her son-in-law Roland; grandchildren Andrea, Roland Jr. (Melissa), Laura. She leaves behind her sister Zsuzsa and many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces in Hungary and Slovakia.
Clara Somogyi (Molnar) was born in Hamuliakovo, (Gutor) in Slovakia on July 17, 1929 and was one of fourteen children. She married Louis in 1950 who predeceased her in 1983. They lived in Rajka, Hungary until 1956, stayed in Austria for six months and arrived in Canada in 1957 with their two daughters to start a new life.
Clara was very devoted to her family and church. For decades she was president of the Ladies Auxilliary of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Hungarian Church. She worked tirelessly organizing and running fundraising dinners, galas, teas, bazaars and picnics to support the church she loved. She also volunteered over many years at the Hungarian Pavilion for Folklorama.
Clara instilled in her children strong values of kindness, generosity, hard work and giving back to the community. Her volunteer efforts included visiting sick and shut in fellow parishioners, taking them meals, baking, flowers and fruit. She also drove many of her fellow widows and others to church and church functions for many years.
Clara had great energy and a positive attitude with which she supported her family, friends and church.
A special thanks is extended by Clara's family to all the wonderful, kind staff on the 6th floor of the Misericordia Interim Personal Care Facility.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Hungarian Church, 365 Burnell Street. Interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, 520 Osborne at Arnold.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clara's memory to St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Hungarian Church.
