Obituary of Stanley Stanton
STANLEY JOSEPH STANSON June 1, 1926 - November 13, 2009 After a brief illness, surrounded by his family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Joseph Stanson on November 13, 2009. He leaves to mourn his wife Nell, daughter Diane Pyndykowski, her daughter Andrea (Noel) and children Robyn and Hope Michaela. Son, Jim (Michelle) and children Nena, Tawnya, Jonathan, Nicole, Julian and Ashton. Son, Robert (Michelle), and children Trevor, Monika and Mark. He is also survived by his sisters Joan and Charlotte and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Josephine, infant son Joseph, daughter-in-law Maria and son-in- law Michael.
Stan was raised and educated in Winnipeg and attended St. Paul's College and Success Business College. During his school years he participated in numerous sport activities, baseball, hockey and football. Later, he was an avid golfer and tennis player. He enjoyed hunting and also fishing at Lake Ottermere in Ontario. His career included the Winnipeg Grain Exchange, Universal Carloading and Distributing Company Ltd of which he was the Director and Coldstream Products from where he took an early retirement.
Stan had a great appreciation of music both classical and country. Had a keen interest in current affairs and the political events of the day. He was a member of the Kinsmen Club and on his retirement, he became a member of the Norwood Legion, where he spent his afternoons playing cards end entered cribbage tournaments. He enjoyed his daily walks through Norwood where he was known as the "Whistler" by local merchants. He also became an armchair sports enthusiast and greatly enjoyed following tennis, baseball, hockey and football. His day was not complete without solving the Free Press crossword and jumble puzzle.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of ward 6A South St. Boniface General Hospital, for their wonderful care and compassion.
Prayers will be said on Monday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 24, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cathedral located at 353 St. Mary Avenue with Very Rev. Fr. Michael Koryluk as celebrant. Interment will follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd.
Pallbearers are Trevor Stanson, Jonathan Stanson, Taylor Palmer, Dan Gladish, Ed Kuleza and Greg Kuleza.
