PETER STREILEIN Peacefully, on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 81. Peter is survived by his loving wife, Anne, of 55 years, children Leonard (Regina), Randy (Debby), Wayne, Carol-Anne Schulz (Frank), Richard (Heather), Jim Schellenberg (Sandra), 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, his brothers, George (Ruth), Edward (Joanne), Don (Linda), sister Erna Schultz (Eric), brothers-in-law John Bodnar, Ron Hessler (Joyce), Allen Hessler (Martine), Tony Lilley and sister-in-law Carol Mastroianni and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins in Canada, Germany and Austria. He was predeceased by his parents Jakob and Mary Streilein, brothers Jack (Trudy), Henry, Samuel, sisters Susan Krushel (Herman), Mary Bodnar, his in-laws Michael and Mary Hessler, brother-in-law Ernie Hessler, sister-in-law Margaret Hessler-Lilley and grandson Matthew Streilein. Peter was born on June 26, 1928 and raised in Winnipeg, MB. At the age of 19 he moved to Toronto where he worked for 7 years for CPR and Eaton's. While there he also participated in the sport of boxing. He returned to Winnipeg, married Anne Hessler and raised 5 children and 1 foster child. He worked as a printer at The Public Press and later worked as a supervisor at Kromar Printing, retiring in 1985. Peter was a devoted, active and proud member of St. Joseph's German Roman Catholic Church where he served on many committees in various positions such as chairperson of the PTA, President of the Parochial Society, member of Knight's of Columbus, and the bingo and liturgical committees for over 55 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family at his summer cottage that he built with his sons at Otter Falls, Whiteshell, MB and winter vacationing in Oahu, Hawaii for 30 years. He loved to travel. He travelled several times to Europe to visit with family there. He was a devoted husband and father and loved his family very much. He was very generous and was always there whenever someone called, giving whatever he could. One of his favorite pastimes was playing cards. He also enjoyed shopping and was a very sociable person. He loved to talk and always had candy for everyone. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to the nurses and staff of 6A Medicine at St. Boniface Hospital for the wonderful care they gave Peter. Viewing and prayers will be held one hour prior to Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 355 Mountain Avenue with Father Kevin Smith officiating. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Michael Streilein, Kurtis and Kevin Schultz, Justin Penny, Keith Schellenberg, and nephew Wade Bodnar. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter's Memory to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation. Dad, you fought a brave and courageous battle with your illness yet you still always shared a smile. Dad/Papa always remember we all love you very much and you will be forever missed.
