Obituary of Olive Struc
OLIVE STRUC (HOLOWCHUK)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Olive Struc on October 15, 2010 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital with family at her side.
Olive is survived by her niece Maureen (Franco) Lisi and their children Jessie and Cassandra; nephew Rick; sisters-in-law Mary (Len) Bateman, Helen Chymy, Jean Struc, Mary Struc, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Olive was predeceased by her beloved husband Tom on July 2, 2006; her precious daughter Judy (at the tender age of 6 years) on October 6, 1962; her brother Bill; her parents Jean and Steve; their precious cats Puddy and Frisky who brought great joy to their lives; brothers-in-law Joe Chymy, Nick Struc, Sam Struc; nieces Jane Chorniuk, Shirley Taylor; and great niece Laura Chorniuk.
Olive was born in Winnipeg to Jean and Steve Holowchuk and attended Faraday and Isaac Newton schools. Music played a big part in her life. In her teens, she was well known for her performance on the "Music of the Ukraine" radio show on station CJRC as well as performing many concerts around the city and province. She entertained at many functions over the years as a strolling accordionist and vocalist. She was a member of the "Society Group" band. In addition, Olive owned and operated the St James and Charleswood music studios for many years. She was an active member of the St James/Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce for 20 years and served on their board of directors for 5 years.
Olive was a devoted wife and mother who loved music and socializing with relatives and friends. While teaching and performing, she still found time to help out at Tom's hobby farm for 18 years. She took great pleasure in transporting Tom, Puddy and Frisky to and from the farm. Olive and Tom celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 12, 2004. She was an active member of both St Joseph's and Blessed Virgin Mary parishes. Special thanks to the WFPS, the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital Emergency department and all those who have kept in touch over the years.
Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church 250 Jefferson Avenue on Thursday October 21, 2010 at 10:00 AM with reception to follow. A private family interment will take place at All Saints Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Terry Chymy, John Hrynkow, Paul Hrynkow, Franco Lisi, Dave Struc and Jim Struc. In lieu of flowers, donations in Olive's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
