Obituary of Edward Szczepanski
EDWARD (EDZIO) SZCZEPANSKI November 11, 1923 - May 29, 2011
On May 29, 2011 at Seven Oaks General Hospital, Edward Szczepanski passed away peacefully at the age of 87.
He is survived by his wife (Mary Ann) of 59 years his sons Greg (Maureen), Tom (Joy), Grandchildren, Lucas, Cassandra and Step Grandchildren Ashlee and Justin. As well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his Parents Kazimierz and Zuzanna, brothers Michael, Mitch; sisters Janina and Susan.
Edward was born and grew up in Poland. He was a Second World War Veteran serving with the Polish Allied Forces in India, Middle East and Monte Cassino, Italy (when the war ended). He later joined his mother and sisters in England, where his brother Michael joined them later. His father and younger brother (Mitch) were buried in Iraq. His Uncle Nikolas Kalyta (Dad's mom's brother) and wife Mary sponsored the family to Winnipeg, Canada in 1948. He met his wife Mary Ann here and were married August 7, 1952. Dad was a steel worker with Manitoba Bridge and Dominion Bridge for over 30 years. Dad enjoyed a long retirement spending countless hours enjoying the outdoors at the cottage which the family built in 1974; gardening and picking the bounties of the forest with his wife, family and friends by his side. Dads door was always open to conversation and advice on any topic. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all their activities. Dad was a devoted family man and long standing parishioner at St. John Cantius' Church. He belonged to Club 13 SPK and was an active member of the St. John's Seniors Club.
The family would like to thank the 5th floor staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital and the Oncology Department at the Victoria Hospital for their care and compassion.
Prayers will be said 7:00 p.m Wednesday evening, June 1, at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at Luxton Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius' Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Ave. with Rev Fr. R.A. Glofcheski officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if friends wish, a donation may be made to a charity of one's choice in Edward's honour.
We love you Dad, Papa and loving husband. You will be sadly missed and never forgotten.
