Obituary of Stephen TRACH
STEPHEN TRACH
On the afternoon of January 27, 2010 with his wife Phyllis, son Tim, daughter-in-law Donna and grandson David at his beside and after receiving Jesus in the Sacrament of the Sick celebrated by Father Bohdan Lukie, Steve passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 89.
Steve was born in the Village of Komarno in 1920. He attended McMillan School, walking 4 miles each day. He farmed in Pleasant Home for several years and operated the store for 3 years. He worked at CPR Weston Shops for 31 years and took early retirement. This gave him the opportunity to enjoy the cottage at Wanipigow and especially the fishing, a very tranquil life style, which he enjoyed immensely.
Gardening was a lucrative experience for him with the extra vegetables he was happy to share the fruits of his labour. Flowers were new to him but he enjoyed his first tulips, gladiolas and mums. The house always had a fresh bouquet. Every Thursday night was spent at the church with the Bingo of which he was the chairman for 13 years. He always maintained the Bingo Group was the best. Steve held memberships in St. Joseph's Seniors, Mens Club, and Father Shyshkowich Knights of Columbus. St. Joseph's and its Pastors gave Steve a sense of a caring community, which he treasured. He was very enthused about the up and coming Olympics where he looked forward to Canada achieving the Gold in curling. He himself actively participated in curling for many years at various clubs.
Steve was predeceased by his parents Fred and Mary Trach, sister Jean and husband Joe, brother John and wife Mary, brother Bill, parents-in-law John and Lena Hanesiak and sister-in-law Margie.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis of 62 years, son Tim (Donna), grandsons David and CPL Michael Trach who is on a Tour of Duty in Afghanistan. Steve was anxiously waiting to see Michael on his leave in February. Also the many dear nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Anne.
The family extend special thanks to the medical staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care, to those who visited Steve and for the Divine Liturgies requested for his health.
Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 3 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Avenue with Father Frank Szadiak, C.Ss.R. officiating. A private interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the St. Joseph's Building and Maintenance Fund or the Seven Oaks Hospital Building Fund.
