Obituary of Johannes BAALEN
JOHANNES JOSEPH (JOHN) VAN BAALEN
Peacefully on August 20, 2008, John Van Baalen passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 92 years.
John is survived by his loving wife Olga Kuchar; grandsons Neil and Bryan Van Baalen; step children Nellie, Wally, Donna. He will be missed by all his 10 step grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren; sister Mary Robertson; nieces Lynda and Brenda Robertson;
He was predeceased by his first wife Christine; daughter Sheila Van Baalen; brother William Van Baalen and sister Dorothy Meakin.
John was born in Winnipeg on January 8, 1916. He served in Hong Kong as a private in the peacekeeping forces with the Winnipeg Grenadiers. John was a prisoner of war camp for 4 years. He was a sociable person who enjoyed talking to all.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Tower 7 at Deer Lodge Centre for all their care and support.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.cropo.com.
He will be sadly missed and will always be in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the Canadian Armed Forces.
