Obituary of Marie TOEVER

MARIE (MARY)VAN TOEVER (nee PATERSHUK) With family and Father Klysh by her side, Mary passed away June 5, 2008 at Victoria Hospital. She will be remembered and sadly missed by her husband, William Van Toever, daughter Audrey (Filipe) Fernandes, son William Jr. (Dora); her brothers, Lawrence (Nettie), Edward (Agnes), Paul, Bobby (Shannon); her sisters, Victoria (Greg) Gutfriend, Kathy (Dave) Baird, Margaret Wark; sisters-in-law Betty and Sheila, her grandchildren, Alicia Fernandes, Amanda and Melissa as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Alice as well as her brothers Alexander, George, Ralph, John, Harry, and William. Mary was born and raised in Usherville, Saskatchewan by Peter and Alice Patershuk. Mary loved to be in the kitchen and took pride in her amazing abilities to cook. It was only fitting that one of her first jobs was as a cook on the Alaskan Highway. After a brief stay in Calgary, she moved to Winnipeg, finding employment with Max Cohn and Sam Hershfield at Main Drugs. She became lifelong friends with them and their families. It was also here that she met her lifelong partner and best friend - William. Shortly after they married, they moved to Dugald, Manitoba where they raised their two children. Moving back to Winnipeg, Mary soon became very involved with St. George's Orthodox Church - the Faith that she grew up with. It was at the church and its Ladies Auxiliary that she was reunited with childhood friends and also developed new and lasting friendships. She also became a member of the local Seniors Club, where she spent a great deal of time in the kitchen preparing food with all of her friends there. She was loved and admired by all and became a most loving and attentive grandmother to all of her grandchildren. Her warmth, compassion, generosity and kind spirit will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to have known her. The family would like to thank Dr. Sharkey, the medical staff of Victoria Hospital, Father Klysh, Father MacLellan, family and friends who kept Mary in their thoughts and prayers, helping to brighten her last days. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, June 11 at 7:00 p.m. at St. George's Orthodox Church, 121 Harvard Ave. E. Transcona. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 12 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Church with Fr. M. Klysh officiating, followed by a memorial lunch. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made in Mary's memory to the Diabetes Foundation or the Asthma Society of Canada.
