Obituary of Francesca VERGHETTI
FRANCESCA VERGHETTI
October 26, 1937 - July 14, 2008
Surrounded by her family it is with profound sadness and heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, and Nonna, Francesca Verghetti after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Left to mourn in her memory are, her husband Vincenzo; children Paul (Terri), Frank (Andrea), Cathy (Jason) and Angela; grandchildren Christina, Jennifer, Derek and Melissa; brothers Frank Troia (Maria), Ben Troia (Sybil), Tony Troia (Cheryl); sisters Maria Ciulla (Giuseppe) and Rosanna Messina (Santo); numerous nieces, and nephews, whom she dearly loved. She also leaves to mourn relatives in Italy.
Francesca was predeceased by her father Paolo Troia, mother Angela Troia, and brother Salvatore Troia.
Francesca was born in Capaci, Italy on October 26, 1937, where she lived until she immigrated to Canada with her parents and siblings in 1956. Shortly after, she met her husband of 47 years and started a family of her own.
She started her career as a seamstress at a very early age where her passion for sewing lead her to a long and successful career beginning at Freed & Freed until retiring from Stitch It in 2003.
Some of her other passions were first and foremost, her loving family whom she loved unconditionally. Camping was one of her favourite past times to enjoy with her family, with many trips to Falcon Lake or fishing trips to anywhere there was a lake and fish to be had. When she wasn't doing one of these things you could always find her in the kitchen, cooking and baking.
The family would like to thank Dr. Maxwell, Anne and the staff at the Oncology Unit of the Victoria Hospital.
An extended thank you to the nurses and staff in Unit 4 North, and a special thanks to Wendy, Frank, Eva and Elizabeth for their care and compassion for our mom.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 17 at 10:00 a.m. with viewing starting at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment will follow in Assumption Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Francesca's memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
You will remain in our hearts forever Riposa in Pace
