Obituary of Nellie Zeaton

Nellie Alexis Zeaton (nee Fastershank) June 12, 1932 - October 7, 2010 Surrounded with love by her family, our Mother was called home to the Lord. Mom was born in the town of Elphinstone, Manitoba; the second of five children to John and Rose Fastershank. She leaves to mourn her passing three sons, Howard, Roderyck (Myrna) and Guy (Brenda), grandchildren Raymond, Joshua, Jonathon, Gregory, Justin, and Kira. Also left to mourn are her sister Margaret, brother-in-law Paul, sisters-in-law Claire and Roberta, aunts and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mom was predeceased by her parents, her husband Frank, her baby son Raymond and her brothers; Lawrence, Norman, and Nelson. Mom's family moved to Winnipeg when she was still a young child, and settled in the North End. As a child, Mom attended Victory School and later graduated from St. John's High School. After graduation she started working at the Free Press and then had a long career with Air Canada, retiring in 1985. While still living at home on McPhillips her best friends and neighbours, June and Ed Abbott introduced this pretty young lady to a dashing young rogue named Frank. The stars aligned, and this handsome young couple was happily married on November 2, 1957. Within a couple years they were blessed with the birth of a son, Howard and a few years after that came two more sons, Rod and Guy. Mom loved her boys and although she kept a close watch on the girls they dated, she was elated when they married and even more proud as the grandchildren were born. Hugs, kisses and love were freely given at Mom and Dad's. Mom was never happier than when she was with her family. When we gathered around the dinner table, no matter how much we ate, mom would always ask "What else can I get you". Aside from her family and friends, Mom loved two other things; travelling, and her church. Working for Air Canada afforded Mom and Dad opportunities to travel to such places as Bermuda, Barbados, as well as touring through Europe. As her children came along, they also traveled, visiting family across Canada and in Florida. Mom was actively involved at St. Joseph's Church and particularly the U.C.W.L.C. where she served terms as the secretary and League President. She became friends with many good and dear people in the parish. Some of her closest relationships were formed with a group of ladies that would eventually become known as "the Gang". Mom remained active at St. Joe's and attended church as often as her health would allow. The family would like to thank Mom's many health care providers; Dr. Terry Babick, Dr. Sean Armstrong, the good people that provided Home-care, and especially the fine staff at the Seven Oaks ICU and Dialysis Unit. Flowers are graciously declined. If people so wish, donations can be made to the charity of your choice. Panakhyda will be sung on Sunday, October 10th at 7:00 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel (1442 Main St.). Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 11th at 9:30 am at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. Both services will be officiated by Fr. Bohdan Lukie C.Ss.R. Honourary Pallbearers will be "the Gang". Active Pallbearers will be Rod, Guy, Raymond, Joshua and Jonathon Zeaton, and Eric Fastershank. Vichnaya Pamyat!
