Obituary of MARIAN JENDRAS
MARIAN JENDRAS
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marian Jendras on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at home with his family by his side.
Marian was born on April 2,1923 in Wolica, Poland. His memory will be forever cherished by his wife Zofia, his daughters Jean (Stan) and Liz (Dean) Marino and his Grandchildren Jason (Ashley), Brendan, Nealon, Lyndon, Mason, Serena and Bryce. Also left to mourn his passing are his nephew Ted and family, his niece Elizabeth (Poland) and family, his God-daughter Kris and family as well as extended relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his Father Stefan, his Mother Agnieszka, his brothers Jozef and Julian and sister Antonina.
At the young age of 17, he was forced to work in the labour camps in Germany until 1947 when he chose to work in the coal mines in Belgium. In November 1951 he immigrated to Canada. In 1959, Marian returned to Poland for a 3 month visit. At the end of the 3 months, he extended his visit by an additional month. It was in this last month that he met the woman he would marry 3 weeks later and spend 52 years together. They returned to Canada and made Winnipeg their home.
Marian worked various construction sites and later at Wilson’s Auto Electric until his retirement. He worked very hard to provide for his family. He loved and cherished us all. Dad enjoyed fishing and watching life at the malls, the Forks, the lake or his front steps. Nothing made him happier than to hear about the daily activities of his children and grandchildren. He treasured all the family gatherings, the most recent, celebrating his 89th birthday.
We will always miss Dad’s humor, his gentle ways and kindness, his stories, his smile and his amazing blue eyes.
The family extends heartfelt thank you to Dad’s home nurse, home care staff, the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, Dr. Patel and Dr. Mink. Your care and kindness is truly appreciated.
Prayers will be said on Tuesday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue.
