Obituary of ANNE WASIUTA
ANNE WASIUTA
Peacefully on Friday January 17, 2014 – Anne Wasiuta passed away in her sleep at the Vista Park Lodge Personal Care Home at the age of 81 years.
Anne will be missed by her husband Walter, son David & wife Patricia of Sylvain Lake, AB, son Thomas & wife Anna and son Ken & wife Laurie of Winnipeg along with grandchildren Branden & Mark Wasiuta of Yellowknife, NWT and Nick & Sara Wasiuta of Winnipeg and extended family & friends.
Anne was born in the rural community of Medika, MB on May 14, 1932 as the youngest of the Smerchynski family of brothers and sisters. Anne lived on the family farm near Hadashville, MB for her young years. She moved to Winnipeg in her teens with her best friends to try to make it big while working various jobs around the city pre 1950. During this time of her life she was also being courted by Walter who eventually persuaded her to marry him and return to the farm and start their family together under the watchful eye of Grandpa George Wasiuta. The family made the big move to Winnipeg in 1961 and found their new home on
Connery Ave.
where Anne raised her three boys and looked after Grandpa George while she worked for the local School division as a crossing guard and later a custodian. Anne enjoyed her home on
Connery Ave.
where she grew a large vegetable garden, made preserves and cared for her beautiful flowers. She always loved family gatherings and was happiest when she was serving a meal to family and friends. Anne & Walter also had a summer residence at Moose Lake for many years where she also enjoyed picking blue berries and wild mushrooms and feeding the chipmunks. Anne & Walter were very active together and travelled to Europe, Alaska and Palm Springs. Anne also enjoyed bowling and working on the perogy chain gang with her friends at the Holy Eucharist Parish. When Anne and Walter retired they relocated to the Concordia Village Retirement Home and later to Fred Douglas Heritage House and then to Vista Park Lodge.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday January 22, 2014 at Cropo Funeral Chapel – 1442 Main Street, Wpg. with Pastor Paul Peters Derry officiating.
A spring interment will occur at the Brookside Cemetery.
We wish to thank the staff of Fred Douglas Heritage House for the wonderful care provided to Anne in her two years there and to the staff of Vista Park Lodge for their care and compassion in Anne’s short stay there.
Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
