RUI ALEXANDRE VIEIRA SOARES
Rui Alexandre Vieira Soares, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2014, at his home, at the age of 71 years.
Rui is survived by his wife of 26 years, Fátima Tomé Soares; his children Rui Pedro (Lúcia), Nuno Alexandre and his step-children, Anibal (Belinda), Eddie (Andrea), Nelson (Rob); grandchildren Ava and Chloe; sisters Olinda (Júlio) and Norberta of Portugal, Gina (Manuel) of France.
He was predeceased by his parents José V. Soares and his mother Maria José Silvério, his sister Bia and his first wife Maria Benedita Laborinho.
Rui was born on September 27, 1942, in Batalha, Portugal. In the early 1960's he served the Portuguese Army in Angola. After completing his Army service, he became a branch manager, lately for the Millenium BCP group. He immigrated to Canada in 1988. He was also a successful account manager with TD Canada Trust. He became deeply involved with the Portuguese community in Winnipeg, eventually becoming President of the Portuguese Association of Manitoba.
After his retirement, he became a loving and devoted grandfather to his beloved Ava and Chloe. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and travelling to seaside destinations.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion.
The viewing will be held on Sunday, February 2, at 5:00 p.m., at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. N. to be followed by Mass, which will be celebrated, at the same location, at 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rui's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
Rui was a dedicated and caring father and husband. He will be greatly missed and always remembered by all his family and friends in Canada and Portugal.
