Obituary of MARTIN MARINCIL
MARTIN MARINCIL
Peacefully on Sunday Feb 9,2014 Martin Marincil passed away at Middle Church
Nursing Home at the age of 88 years. Martin leaves behind his beloved wife Nada of 55
years, his daughters Zdenka (Zeljko), Jeannie (Igor), grandchildren; Anthony, Annie,
Amanda, Adam, Andrew, Anton and Adrian, his brother Stipe, sisters Ruzica and
Mandica in Croatia, his nephews Peter (Josephine), Marijan (Christine), Joe (Marina),
sister-in-law Anka Marinic, nephews Ivica, Jack (Joanne), niece Kathy(Walter) and
numerous nephews and nieces throughout Canada, the U.S.A. and Croatia. Martin was
predeceased by his son Zdravko, brothers Joso, Ivan and brother-in-law Lovro Marinic.
Martin was born in Kuterevo, Lika, Croatia September 10, 1925 to parents Jerko and
Maria. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 working throughout Ontario in various labour
intensive jobs, until he settled in Winnipeg in 1958. Here Martin worked with a number
of companies before landing a job with Major Quilting until his retirement.
He was a proud member of the Croatian community in Winnipeg and a devout member
of St. Nicholas Tavelich Croatian Catholic Parish, since its founding. He could always be
found before mass, having come early to greet his fellow parishioners.
Martin had quite the green thumb, and was passionate about gardening with his wife
Nada. If he wasn't in his garden you could find Martin in the garage with a glass of his
homemade wine either working on his car, listening to his favourite music, playing cards
or socializing with friends. Not a day passed where his car didn't shine, and a neighbour
wasn't greeted with a cheerful hello.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all relatives, friends, the
staff and doctors of Middlechurch Nursing Home for their support, care and compassion.
Rosary will be recited at 6:30pm with vigil for the deceased at 7:00pm on Thursday,
February 13 at St. Nicholas Tavelich Roman Catholic Church, 2688 Main Street.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 14 at 11:00am at St. Nicholas
Tavelich Roman Catholic Church, 2688 Main Street with Father Robert Polz presiding.
