Obituary of HELENA HOLOTA
MRS. HELENA HOLOTA
(nee Dobrowolska)
1921 – 2014
On Monday, February 10th our mother and grandmother passed from this life suddenly but peacefully.
She was predeceased by her husband Kazimierz. Surviving her are her two daughters, Krystina Holota and Helene Swinn; grandson Tyler Swinn (Mary) and family, and long time family friend Eric Brennan and extended family in Poland.
Born in Tomaszow, Poland, she was the eldest of 5 children requiring her to help with care of her siblings and running of the family farm. The turmoil of WWII brought her to Germany, where she survived the hardships of labour camps.
From Germany we immigrated to Canada in 1956, soon after arriving in Winnipeg she started to work at Misericordia Hospital (Dietary Dept.) until her retirement. Our mother thoroughly enjoyed her retirement years, which were filled with her favorite pastime of caring for her pets, enjoying her grandson, gardening and taking long walks in Kildonan Park. She enjoyed looking after her home and family.
Mama had a caring nature, was very reserved and always showed a lot of courage, quiet strength and gratitude for all the blessings given to her. She devoted her life to her family wholeheartedly with love.
Our mother/grandmother was our personal hero and will forever be in our hearts. She taught us to be what we are today. We were blessed to have had her as a mother (this is her legacy).
A private family service will take place with interment at Brookside Cemetery.
