Obituary of ALMA SUNSTRUM
ALMA SUNSTRUM (WOLFF)
Passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the age of 75 years.
She is survived by her sons Jed (Sylvia) and Brett and her grandsons Mark and Evan. Alma was predeceased by her husband Reginald in 1987, parents Sophie Korman-Wolff-Evenson and Rudolf Wolff, and brother Ted. She will also be lovingly remembered by John and Deidre Sunstrum, her brothers and sisters, Louise, Pat (Dan), Teresa (Hank), Jim (Jessica) and Gordon (Betty). She will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
Alma grew up in Wadena, Sask. She had many fond memories of farm life, pond skating, snowball fights, riding to school on the back of a horse drawn wagon. She went to country school and especially loved art class. In later years her sister found drawings that Alma had made in school and Alma proudly framed and hung them in her home. In her youth, Alma was active in sports and played ball in school. She loved outdoor activities. She moved her love of sports indoors and found her talent in curling in later years. You could also say she found love at the rink as that`s where Reg was told to meet her after work if he hoped to have a chance at asking her out one day that week. They married and soon thereafter, Reg’s work took him to Winnipeg where they raised their two boys on Deerhorn Lane. Alma found work at a little payroll company just starting out named Comcheq. The family enjoyed camping in various places and eventually found their summer home at Bird River where they worked hard every weekend to clear away trees and plant gardens and build decks, docks and additions. This cabin eventually became Alma and Reg’s retirement home. Alma and Reg enjoyed taking trips around Canada, the States, Europe and Hawaii and kept a keen eye out for their winter home. They settled in sunny Tucson Arizona and were very happy to be snow birds. Alma was an excellent gardener and took pride in her home and yards. Her love of gardening was only surpassed by her love of reading. She was a voracious reader at times having 3 books going at once.
“So go to your enchanted garden and there you're sure to find, a breath of life's purest air which will calm your weary mind.” Rest in Peace.
A celebration of Alma`s life will be held on Sunday, February 23, at 3:00 p.m. at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment of her cremated remains will take place at a later date.
If friends so desire in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alma's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6 or Canadian Mental Health Association - Winnipeg Region, 930 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg MB R3G 0P8.
