Obituary of FRANS VISSCHER

FRANS JOHANNES VISSCHER Frans Johannes Visscher, 84, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away on February 20th, 2014 in Winnipeg. A graveside funeral service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on February 24 at 11 AM with Lee Barringer officiating. Cropo Funeral Chapel will be handling the funeral arrangements. Frans was born in Kruingingen, the Netherlands, to Leunje and Wouter Visscher on October 27 1929. He lived on his family’s orchard and after World War 2 he attended horticultural school before immigrating to Canada in 1953, where he furthered his studies in science at the University of Manitoba. He then studied at the School of Art and pursued a career as an artist in the 1960s and had many shows of his works around the country. His art reflected his love of the countryside and his life experiences. Frans is survived by his daughter, Jenny, ex-wife Esther Warkov and his grandchildren Efrem and Avah. He is preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful and caring staff of Riverview Health Centre as well as Cropo Funeral Chapel. Frans will be greatly missed by family and friends.
