Obituary of EUGENE JOSEPH PYRZ
Eugene (Gene) Joseph Pyrz,
Actor, Musician and Artisan
May 30, 1956 - February 25, 2014

Gene died peacefully at home on February 25, 2014, with his partner Ruth Luff by his side. Gene was predeceased by his father Eugeniusz Pyrz, grandparents Joseph & Aniela Pyrz and Joseph & Katherine Brunka. Gene leaves to cherish his memory his mother Angela, sister Christina (Steve Kowall), brothers, Patrick, Robert (Jackie) and Andrew (Hilda), eight nieces, one nephew and four great nieces and nephews.
Gene the actor will be remembered for his work on stage at MTC, Shakespeare in the Ruins, Theatre Projects, MTYP Rainbow Stage and the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. His select film and TV credits include: Cinderella Man, Cashing in, Less than Kind, Blue Murder and The Hessen Conspiracy. Gene is also famous for his role as Hank in Hank Williams: The Show He Never Gave. Gene, the musician wrote, led and performed with the rock and roll band Combo Combo. He was also willing to play music with anyone, giving stellar performances with: bands in Toronto, street players, karaoke, combos and solos in Cuba. Gene used every opportunity to perform for the enjoyment of all. He was a talented man who will be sadly missed, celebrated for his achievements, and remembered for the legacy he left behind.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 28th at 1:00pm at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church 315 Munroe Avenue and Brazier Street. Fr. Janusz Maron OFM Cap to celebrate the mass. Interment and wake will follow on May 30, 2014. Special thanks to the CancerCare (Pam, Barb, Heather, Dr Schroeder, Elizabeth and all) everyone at the Palliative Care Program for honouring Gene’s health care requests and for their loving care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, memoriam donations to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation are to be directed to the "Fund of Last Resort".
