Obituary of VICTORIA HRYNICK

VICTORIA (VICKI) VERNA HRYNICK (nee Kishka) Following a very brief yet very quick illness at the Seven Oaks General Hospital on February 23, 2014, Victoria (Vicki) Hrynick of Winnipeg. Victoria was born in Teulon, Manitoba on Friday, November 13, 1936. Vicki entered the world under the most devastating circumstances sadly losing her mother during birth and being left abandoned by her father later that day. Thankfully, her uncle and aunt would take in Vicki where she would be raised on the family farm in Komarno, Manitoba. She always held this place very close to her heart. Vicki is survived by her loving son Brian. She is also survived by stepsisters, Doris Chonstke and Marie (Frank) Graboweski. Also left to mourn are loyal friend Henry Galagun as well as many cousins and friends. Vicki was predeceased by her birth parents John and Mary Kishka (nee Scrapneck), stepparents Michael and Rose Kishka, stepsiblings Peter and Helen, husband Michael Hrynick (2002) and her first son Terry Hrynick (1986). After growing up in Komarno, Vicki came to Winnipeg in 1952. Her first job would be at McDonald's Aircraft, followed by a move to Nutty Club. She would soon meet her future husband and would marry on September 18, 1955. Vicki later worked with the hospitality industry (mostly near the West Kildonan area) to raise her sons. She also worked as the bookkeeper for the family business (Mike's Texaco) on Selkirk Ave. She would move to Duffy's Taxi and eventually make her last change to Grey Hound Canada, spending 22 years with the company until her retirement in 2001. Always known for her strong work ethic, Vicki had the ability to function in many roles at one time and had the reputation for getting the job done with incredible dependability and efficiency. She was also known by many for her kindness, generosity and her warm sense of humour, even as she faced some very overwhelming challenges. Vicki had several hobbies while raising her family. She loved Country and Ukrainian music and loved to dance when she could. Known an avid reader, she could always be found with a novel or newspaper. She also loved gardening, cooking and baking. She would take up crocheting/knitting, eventually turning this hobby into a small business. She loved travelling to Grand Forks with her friend Helen or her son Brian. Vicki also enjoyed bingo, cards and the occasional trip to the casino. Although not much of a sports fan, Vicki had a great passion in watching curling on TV. In recent years, TV was a main source of pleasure where she devoted time to news and current event programs. Vicki and her son would like to express their most heartfelt and sincere gratitude to the following during the last several months. Their kindness, compassion, dedication and assistance during some extremely difficult times have been tremendously appreciated. Thank you to the doctors, nurses, support staff and Day Clinic at Seven Oaks who diligently looked after her. Thank you to each Home Care Aid that came every day to assist her when required. Your help and kindness was most valued and cherished. Thank You to the entire Community Home Nursing team that treated her when needed. Thank you to Cory Cameron and Lila. Your simple favours proved to be incredibly important with daily activities. In accordance with Victoria's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. An open microphone will be available for anyone who would like to share a story or memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
