Obituary of STEPHEN ELTON O'GORMAN
STEPHEN ELTON O’GORMAN
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Stephen Elton O’Gorman on March 1, 2014. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend. He will be greatly missed by the love of his life, Ruth of 67 years. His children Larry (and family), Darlene (Greg), Steven (Noreen). Grandchildren, Lindsay (Kevin), Rachael, Stephen, Melissa (Levi). Great Grandsons Kade & Cole. Brother, Dr. Jack Sprague (Dr. Nancy Sprague) of Millet, AB.
Stephen was born March 3, 1926 in Graminia, Alberta to John & Christine O’Gorman. At the age of 11 after his parents passing three days apart, he left for Winnipeg to be raised by his Icelandic Oma and Uncle, leaving behind the life he had known and his baby brother Jack, who was adopted. It wasn’t until recently that he was reunited with his brother and introduced to the family.
Stephen met Ruth while working at Sherbrook Pool as a life guard, and knew instantly that she was the one. Stephen worked at many different jobs throughout his life, Vulcan Ironworks, Modern Dairies, Shriners Hospital, and CPR. He found his calling at the Winnipeg School Division as an Engineer/Chief Custodian in 1962 until his retirement in 1991, after 29 years of service.
Dad enjoyed the cottage for 30 years which his family helped build at Winnipeg Beach. He also enjoyed trips to Branson, Las Vegas, and Texas. He especially enjoyed family get togethers at his children’s homes, going for drives and up until the end still worried where his car was parked. He was a “Jack of all Trades and a Master of None.” He was a man of integrity and loved his family dearly.
Many thanks to the staff of GA-3 Health Sciences Center for their kindness, care and sense of humor.
Please join us on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. noon to celebrate Stephen’s life at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to D’Arcy’s A R C (Animal Rescue Center) or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
