Obituary of WALTER BABIUK
WALTER BABIUK
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of
our beloved husband, father and grandfather Walter Babiuk. He passed away March 26, 2014 at Victoria Hospital at the age of 79 years. He was predeceased
by his parents Kost and Mary Babiuk.
He is survived by his wife Edna, daughter Saundra {Ralph), son Darrin (Cindi),
grandchildren Madison and Riley, sisters Helen (George), Ollie (Gordon), Betty,
and brothers George (Lil), and Ed (Joan).
Walter was born on July 31, 1934 in Chisholm, AB and spent his years growing up
in Andrew, AB with his caring and fun loving siblings. After graduating from the
Northern Alberta lnstitute of Technology, he began his career at lnland Cement in
Regina. lt was here he met and married his beloved wife Edna. They later
moved to Winnipeg where he continued his work at lnland as a Plant Chemist and
Sales Manager, retiring in 1999, after 40 years of dedicated service. Years later,
he would still look forward to meeting up with the guys for regular get-togethers.
Walter will always be remembered as a generous, kind-hearted family man. He
was proud of his Ukrainian roots and enjoyed making his famous perogies for
family gatherings. He had a special fondness for the family dogs, showering them
with treats and attention. Walter was a very hard worker, not only at lnland, but
around the house and the family cottage in Belair, MB spending years building a
wonderful retreat, where we enjoyed many great moments. Walter and Edna
travelled to Osoyoos, BC over many winters to visit friends and escape our crazy
Manitoba winters. Walter was also gracious with his time helping friends and
family with many projects on the go. He will be deeply missed by all that knew
him.
The family would like to thank the staff at Victoria Hospital for all their efforts.
A celebration of Walter's life will take place on Thursday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Winnipeg, MB.
Flowers are gratefully declined, however, consider making a donation in memory
of Walter to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or a charity of one's
choice.
