Obituary of JOHN SHYMKO
JOHN SHYMKO
With sad hearts, John Shymko passed away on May 8, 2014.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Martha, sons Curtis (Cindy) and Rob (Jackie), grandchildren: Kyle (Rhea), Devon, Brooklyn and Cole and great-grandson Chase.
He was predeceased by his parents William and Julia, his son Dale and brothers Peter and Walter and sister Stephanie.
John was born on April 24, 1921. He spent his early years living at Skylake where he met the love of his life, Martha. They were married on August 12, 1950. Together they built their first home in Komarno and a service station for repairing cars and selling gas. Eventually they decided to move to Winnipeg to start their family. John spent most of his life employed at CNR working in mechanical supply and retired at the age of 65 in 1986. He and Martha were also long time members of St. Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church. He was an extremely hard worker building his own homes and cottage. No challenge was too big for him. His leisure time was spent over the years with family and friends at White Lake and then his cottage at Petersfield. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years. John was always caring and generous. Nothing brought a smile to his face more than a visit from the children or the family dogs. He will be greatly missed by all.
We would like to thank Paramedic Team 25, the staff at St. Boniface Hospital and Concordia Hospital for the over and above excellent care that John received.
The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 14, 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with interment following at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of John to the Heart and Stroke Foundation
