Obituary of ROSE VALAINIS
ROSE VALAINIS
June 9, 1935 – June 3, 2014
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and Baba, Rose Valainis at the River East Personal Care Home at the age of 78. She was predeceased by her husband Joe, her son Ronnie, her parents, and all 7 of her brothers and sisters.
She leaves to mourn her daughters Ann, Elaine, Josie (Patrick), and Joyce (Gus); grandchildren Lee Ann (Dan), Danielle (Kyle), Jessica (Colin), Brian (Corinne), Jacque (Kayla), Steven (Kate-Lynn), Tyler, Kaylyn, and Kaden; great-grandchildren, Josef, David, and Jane.
She also leaves behind her extended honorary family Mike & Julie, Breanne & Gabrielle Delorme; Ken & Val Valainis and the boys and their families; Penny & Hank; as well as Bernard. To mom, family was not defined by blood.
Mom had an incredible love for her children and family, but her bond she had with her grandchildren was on another level entirely.
Mom worked hard all her life starting with a job at the A&W in Steinbach as a teenager and retiring from a job at Canadian Tire. On the farm and when she moved to Winnipeg she put in countless hours with the church and the women’s auxiliary baking and making perogies while making sure her family always had a stockpile in each of their homes. Her love of cooking turned her into quite the entrepreneur when dad passed and her perogies, cabbage rolls, and perishky were in high demand across the entire city. Many were saddened when she moved from her home to an apartment and closed up shop.
Mom also played hard and Saturday nights were filled with the love and laughter of friends and family along with cards, food, 5 Star, and the Polka Party on CJOB.
Mom’s compassion and drive to take care of others followed her to the nursing home where she was always opening her fridge and cupboards and offering up treats and she always had her eyes out in her neighborhood and made sure everyone was taken care of.
Mom spent her last 2 years at River East Personal Care Home and we would like to thank the staff for the kindness and love they showered on Mom.
Following Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations can be made to the River East Personal Care Home in memory of Mom.
Rest now Mom, the values you taught us and the lessons we learned by your side, will be proudly carried on.
