Obituary of KAREN LYN KIRKPATRICK
KAREN LYN KIRKPATRICK
(ATKINSON)
April 13, 1956 – June 26, 2014
With great sadness we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, and grandmother at her home on June 26, 2014.
Karen will be lovingly remembered forever by her husband David, son Scott (wife Katherine), grandson Isaiah, her sisters Beth (Gordon), Arlene (Gus), and Brenda (Brian), and her many nieces and nephews. Karen was predeceased by her father Marvin, mother Mina, and her brother Vern.
Karen was born in Benito, MB and grew up in Durban, MB and graduated from Swan Valley Regional Secondary School in 1974. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Winnipeg and began working at Pioneer Life. After a brief career at Pioneer Life, Karen found her true calling at Grace Hospital where she worked for the next 38 years of her life.
Karen was an avid reader, and she spent a lot of her free time sharing several crafting hobbies with family and friends. It would be safe to say Karen touched the lives of everyone she came into contact with and she treasured the many friendships she made throughout her journey. Karen had the special ability to make strangers feel welcome, and friends and family feel special with her kind words and thoughtful acts of caring. She was truly a one of a kind person who always put the needs of others ahead of her own.
A celebration of Karen’s life will take place on Wednesday, July 2, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John XXIII Parish, 3390 Portage Avenue. There will be a private interment at a later date in Durban, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Siloam Mission, 300 Princess St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 1M3.
