Obituary of TERESA KASIAN
TERESA (TERRY) KASIAN
(nee GAUDET)
October 20, 1926 – July 13, 2014
It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to our mother and grandmother Terry Kasian. She passed away peacefully at Grace Hospice on Sunday July 13, 2014.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Peter, son Paul and brothers Elmer, Jerry and Archie Gaudet. She will be dearly missed by daughters Susan and Laura, granddaughter Jill (Jonathan), daughter in law Susan (Stewart), sister Marie, brother George (Freda), sister-in-law Una, and many nieces and nephews and their extended families.
Terry was born in St. Nicholas, P.E.I. Being an exceptional student she was chosen to attend the convent school in Miscouche for higher grades where she then received a scholarship to Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown. She completed her nursing education at Charlottetown Hospital in 1947. After working as a nurse for 1.5 years she became one of Canada’s first stewardesses for Trans Canada Airlines. She returned to work as a nurse in Winnipeg in 1949 where she met our Dad in the operating room and they were married in 1950. Mom then devoted her talents to providing a wonderful home and raising her three children. After they were well on their way she returned to her nursing career at Holy Family Nursing Home.
Mom was passionate about her faith and was very active in her current and former parishes of St. Anthony of Padua and St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. She enjoyed her retreats at St. Benedict’s and her various bible study and prayer groups. She was a devoted volunteer with Hospice and Palliative Care for many years.
Mom had many special people in her life that brought her much joy, happiness and comfort. Thank you especially to Judy, Denise, Deedee and Vince, Father Don Lukie, great niece Jennifer and family, and Murray.
We are grateful beyond words for the care and compassion shown to our mom by Dr. K. Coates and the staff of Palliative Care at St. Boniface Hospital and Grace Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Hospice and Palliative Care Manitoba.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Parish (W.K.), 250 Burrin Ave, Winnipeg, with Rev. Dominic Yuen presiding, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Cremation has already occurred and interment will follow at a later date.
