Obituary of JEAN C. MELNYK
JEAN MELNYK
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Jean Melnyk. Mom left us in the early hours of Tuesday, August 5, 2014.
She leaves behind children Robert (Sandra), Marilyn (Kim), and Karen, grandchildren Joel, Ryan, Jared, and Alanna, and great granddaughter Grace. Also missing her are Christine and Zach, Jennifer, Derek, Allisa, Austin, Brady and Julie, Katelyn, and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was born March 3, 1926 in Ladywood, MB, and was the youngest of 4 children. She grew up on the farm, and moved to Winnipeg to work at age 17. She married our dad, Paul, at age 21.
Mom’s life revolved around family. She loved to cook and bake, especially for her grandchildren. She was a lifelong gardener, and always had a great love of the outdoors and natural beauty. Her passions for cooking and nature have been passed on to her kids and grandkids.
Mom spent the last six years at Maples Personal Care Home, and we thank the staff for the excellent care that they provided, especially in the last six months. It is truly appreciated.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg MB R3T 0R3 (www.winnipeghumanesociety.ca). Mom always had a soft spot for all animals, from wildlife to farm animals to pets.
Funeral services will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St, on Saturday, August 9th at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
