Obituary of EMILY SOKOLOWSKI
EMILY SOKOLOWSKI
October 3, 1922 – September 14, 2014
Sadly, we announce the passing of Emily on September 14, 2014.
Emily was predeceased by her beloved husband Jan in 1980, as well as by her four sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her daughter Dr. Krystyna Belendiuk, son-in-law Major Patrick Henry McGann (Ret.), grandchildren Dr. Katherine (Kat) Anne Belendiuk and Andrew Peter Belendiuk, as well as Kat’s husband Dr. David Tolliver.
Emily was born in Wisla, Poland, immigrating to Canada after the Second World War. Shortly thereafter she met her husband Jan in Winnipeg, married, and had one daughter. Emily worked in the Business Office of the Winnipeg Clinic for over twenty years before she retired in 1981. She was an active member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Polish Branch 246 for over thirty years, the last twenty-five of which she served as its President. Although her daughter lived in the United States, Emily was actively involved in her daughter’s life and those of her grandchildren. Emily loved to travel and she got much pleasure out of her many trips throughout the world with her daughter.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 17 at 3:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 18 at 9:45 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue. Interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery.
