Oh Rygiel family.....I feel so saddened by your loss. I do not know you or Matthew personally, but am friends with someone who is. She told me today of this sad loss. The obituary made me cry and sigh. As I age I wonder what life is all about.
Matthew certainly appeared to be an awesome human being that will be sadly missed by many. The disease did not take his good heart away. He so lived life to the fullest and made many people happy. And although many of us try to appreciate the happiness in our daily life we often don't do that....till we hear of such a sad loss of a precious person.
This angel has left his loved ones and friends too early, but his impact will be around forever and ever and ever.
Tear filled blessings to your family,
Darlene D.

Dear Rygiel Family,
Our most sincere condolences for your loss. May God keep your family in His arms and heal the pain in your hearts. It's so hart to ackowledge Matthew was already taken to Heaven.
An EPITATH for your son, Matt Tushi,
Here, freed from pain, secure from misery, lies
A Child, the darling of his parent's eyes:
A gentler Lamb ne'er sported on plain,
A fairer flower will never bloom again:
Few were the days allotted to his breath;
Now let him sleep in peace his night of death, by Thomas Gray
Matt was indeed wonderful and our prayers, thought are with you during this time of sorrow.
Bless you and your entire Family!

So sorry to hear. I had the pleasure of knowing Matt briefly through the Creative Writing community at the UofW. He was such a positive guy, a really bright light. My heart and prayers go out to your family during this sad time.

My condolences to the family.
I was privileged to have Matty in three of the Communication Studies classes that I taught at the U of W. It would not be an exaggeration to say that he was not only a favourite student of mine, but that he was also a favourite of the other students. A highlight, of course, was the time he wore his Spiderman costume for his in-class presentation (his presentation did not concern Spiderman, and I do not believe that it was Halloween). He was smart, and funny, and quick-witted. I was lucky, in a sense, to run in to him one last time at the airport while we were both waiting to get on a plane to Vancouver. We had never, in four years, discussed his health or his condition, but he let me know that it had been a struggle lately. The trip, which I believe was his last to Vancouver as mentioned in his obituary, was in part to go sailing with his family. He had always wanted to go sailing.
Matty lived as hard as he could. I am glad to have learned from him.

I had the pleasure of teaching Matthew in an introduction to Political Science class at the University of Winnipeg. He was always incredibly respectful, cheerful and interested in learning. He always greeted me with a smile and a "Hello professor." I cried when I saw the announcement in the paper. A promising life ended too soon. Please know that Matthew talked often of his parents with great fondness and he was obviously well loved and supported. My sincerest condolences.

My family and I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Rygiels ,Bryan and baby Robert. We have come to know the Rygiels because our Godson Bryan is married to Gosia .
We have seen the love that comprises this family. As , has been so aptly written in his tribute ; Matthew embodied this love and positive life spirit . He did not let his illness confine him , rather he chose how it would define him. He chose not to be constrained by it . He sought out positive , life affirming people and experiences through out his life. In so doing , he enriched the lives of the people he touched .
To his parents , I know no words to express our sympathy at this sorrowful time . Your deep love and dedication are a testament to what is truly a family .

To the Rygiel Family;
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I went to Sisler and U of W with Matthew and shared many classes and group projects with him. You completely captured his outgoing, charismatic personality with your wonderful tribute and I am certain that he has left you with many stories to laugh and reminisce about. Matthew was such a wonderful person who never let his health define him and I am so glad to have been able to meet him.

I am very saddened to hear the news of Matthew's passing. I remember Matthew so well as I worked at two of the schools that Matthew attended. Also, Matthew's interest in origami made him a hit at the Japan Pavilion when he was one of the exhibitors with Brian and Bob. I recall most vividly his zest for life, his infectious humour and his ability to make others feel so good when they were with him. His remarkable character and personality were such a gift to all who had the privilege of meeting him. Others, young and old recognized that the world was a better place for having Matthew in it. He will be so missed. May you as his family know that he will always be remembered in a very special way.
Sincerely,
Terumi Kuwada
