Obituary of LEONTINE RASMUSSEN
LEONTINE RASMUSSEN (ZASTRE)
Leontine (Lee) Rasmussen passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks General Hospital on January 10, 2015. Lee was born on October 22, 1926 and lived a joyful life full of family and many friends.
Lee was predeceased by her husband John.
Surviving Lee are her five children: Ron (Enid), Lee, Edgar, Don (Shelley), and Clayton (Arleen); eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren and her brother John.
Born and raised in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba Lee was part of a large family with roots deep in her community and in Manitoba. Having witnessed the hard years of the Depression and WW II, she obtained a strength and resilience that served her and those around her throughout her life. The lives of her family were enriched by her commitment, hard work and loving self-sacrifice. In turn, Lee gained much joy and satisfaction from the lives of her children and large extended family. A wide circle of friends, whether gained through her long-time association with the Victoria Curling Club or through service with the Royal Canadian Legion Brooklands and Weston Branch No. 2 also gave her happiness and fulfillment.
Lee’s last years were made difficult by the ravages of cancer. She was characteristically and unfailingly stoic in facing that disease. Lee was provided with the utmost in care and compassion by a large group of medical professionals that included: Dr. Harris and her colleagues at Grace Cancer Care; Marcia of the Home Care Program; Cori, Liz and their colleagues of the Palliative Care Program; and Dr. St. Godard, Dr. Braun and the nursing staff of Seven Oaks General Hospital on the 5th Floor U2 and U1. Lee’s family extends its profound gratitude to them for her care.
A Memorial Service celebrating Lee’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Brooklands and Weston Branch No. 2, 1613 Logan Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015. A private family ceremony of interment for Lee (and John) will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Grace Cancer Care or to CancerCare Manitoba might be made.
