LENA CERNE

Obituary of LENA CERNE

LENA CERNE (nee Cadez) Peacefully on January 12, 2015, our dear Mother passed away at the age of 84. Lena is survived by daughters, Elda and Loretta, sister-in-law Adrienne Cadez, niece Linda (Larry), nephews Richard (Karen), Ronald (Lisa), great-nieces Michelle, Anna, Julia and great-nephew Joshua. Predeceased by husband Luis, parents Josef and Carolina, brothersVence and Romano. Lena was born in Kozana, Italy (now Slovenia) and came to Canada in 1950. She began her new life picking sugar beets in Homestead, MB. The family later moved to Winnipeg, where she worked as a sewer for Victoria Leather. She retired proudly as a caretaker from the Winnipeg Police in 1991. Lena always had a smile on her face. Her joy was all the children in her life, family and special friends. She adored the family pets and any dog that crossed her path. She loved to cook and to entertain. Her guilty pleasures were her love of french fries from V Jay's and her fruitful trips to the Casino. In her later years, at the new house, she loved to sit on her swing to watch the flowers grow in the garden, to watch the birds in the fountain and to marvel when the geese and ducks returned to the backyard each spring. A private funeral was held on January 19, 2015 at Holy Rosary Church. Pallbearers were the Family and Daniel Mori. Honorary pallbearer was Ken Mori. Our heartfelt thanks to our family and friends, Dr. C. Fotti, Dr. M. Davey, the Victoria General Medical Staff, Edith Kovacs, Jody Walder, home-care workers Cathy and Geraldine for all their compassionate care of our Mother. Those who wish, may make a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Lena. God Bless you Mother, we'll miss you so.
