Obituary of GORDON SCHETTLER
November 26, 1937 – January 29, 2015
Peacefully and surrounded by family, Gord Schettler died at St Boniface Hospital.
Gord was deeply loved and will be missed by his wife Diane, children Kelly (Réjean), Mike (Wendy) and Dan (Kirsten) and grandchildren Jessica (Kelsey), Sarah and Joshua Schettler, Lindsay (Bill) and Rory (Erin) McDonald, Jonah Schettler, Olivier and Luc Labrie, and great-granddaughter Sophie Schettler. His siblings Ron (Joan), Carolyn, Audrey (Don) Jones and Arlene and sister-in-law Karen (Barry) Turnbull as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins will also miss him very much.
Gord’s love was Diane, his wife of 55 years, and the family they created. Their home was the place for all to gather. When not home with Diane and family, Gord’s favourite place on earth was the cottage at Grand Beach. This is the home Gord built himself and where countless family memories were made. Gord was a poet and artisan and took great pleasure in creating things from words and wood.
His life will be remembered on Thursday, February 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St. as Gord was consistently appreciative of the care and compassion he received from the staff at CancerCare.
“Poems are word pictures
And I go around
Popping Polaroids –
When what I really
Want to do is paint
The Mona Lisa.”
