Obituary of TED LIBA
TED LIBA
With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our husband, father and grandfather Ted Liba on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the age 69 years in Winnipeg, MB.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 39 years Pat; daughter Catherine Lys(Stephen)of Regina; daughter Kristen Chernick (Daryn)of Winnipeg; his grandchildren Alicia and Lucas Lys; sister-in-law Shirley Liba; niece Jennifer Lacombe (Dale); nephews Jeff Liba (Julie Rempel) and Chris Liba (Tania); special cousin Ron Capp; sister-in-law Diane Start (Roger) and brother-in-law Gordon Start (Bev), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Theodore and Rose Liba; his brother Peter Liba; and in-laws Douglas and Eunice Start.
Ted was born in Winnipeg, MB on Jan. 5, 1943 to Theodore and Rose Liba. He grew up in the Elmwood area and attended Elmwood High School. There he was known as a star athlete who excelled at many sports in particular basketball and football. He made long lasting friendships there and enjoyed many years of poker games and fishing trips with this special group. After high school he went on to graduate from the Manitoba Institute of Technology with a Business Certificate.
He spent time living in Saskatchewan where he met the love of his life Pat. They returned to Winnipeg and were married August 5, 1972. They raised their two daughters Catherine and Kristen in Winnipeg. Together they shared many memories and lots of love especially at the family cottage in Grindstone Provincial Park. Ted had a love of the outdoors and could often be found planting flowers in his gardens and tending to his lawn in Winnipeg and at the cottage. In 2004 he was delighted when his first grandchild Alicia was born followed by Lucas, and he became lovingly known as "Grandpa Winnipeg". He held a special place in his heart for his faithful little doggie Cali.
Ted worked as Director of Human Resources at the Misericordia Hospital for 31 years. He was very passionate worker and created many lasting friendships with co-workers from his time there. He retired in 2002. For the past 8 years he has enjoyed working for the Breezy Bend Golf Course in the Canteen. He would always greet customers with his bright smile and his funny wit.
Ted fought a courageous battle over the past 3 years with cancer and the past 10 years with heart disease. During this time he remained extremely positive. Those who knew him were amazed by his energy, his ability to keep smiling and the way he was always helping others.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday June 9 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St.
