Obituary of MARTHA FRANCES PESTER/MOLISH
MARTHA FRANCES PESTER/MOLISH
(nee Horinek)
April 29, 1925 – March 6, 2015
It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our dearly beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother on March 6, 2015; a month prior to her 90 Birthday.
Mom leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Theresa, and her four sons; Toby (Joanne) Thomas, Donald (Blythe), and Greg (Teresa), as well as 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Toby & Emily Horinek, her precious baby daughter Linda Marie, her son-in-law Wilbert Smitzniuk, and we can't forget her little poodle “Ginger” who was at her side 24/7.
Mom grew up on a farm in Alberta and always told us she was her Dad's “right hand girl”. In her school years, she was a marathon runner and boasted of all the ribbons she had won. In her teen years, she loved to sing and play her guitar. In 1945 she married Vincil Jerome Pester – they moved to Manitoba and together, they had 6 children. Mom was a stay-at-home Mom and raised the 5 of us basically on her own. In 1972 she met and married Nicholas Molish who sadly passed away 3 years later.
Mom had a passion for Country Music. Pursuing her dream of music - she started out singing and playing with various musicians, recording some records and eventually formed her own “all girls” band “Side Saddle”. She was quite well known for performing in the hotel circuit around Winnipeg throughout the 1960's 70's and 80's. She sang out many memories of “Satin Sheets” and “Send Me the Pillow that you Dream On” – Now she can answer the question “How Far is Heaven”. Truly one of the last great Western singers of that era.
She retired in her late 60's but she was in her 80's when she finally hung up her guitar.
Mom, you will be missed “Once a Day, Every Day, All Day Long”.
We would like to thank the 3rd floor, Unit 6 staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital for the care and compassion they provided to our Mother, especially in her final days.
Flowers are greatly declined. Donations in Mom's memory can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
