Obituary of JUNE OBIREK
JUNE OBIREK
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, June Obirek on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at St. Boniface Hospital. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband Bert, and children Rick (Rose), Rob (Leanna), Michelle (Don), Lori (Rob), Grant (Donna), and 11 grandchildren.
With her passing, the world has lost the most generous and kind person that we know. She proudly showered her children and grandchildren with love, guidance, gifts and treasures. She never said “no” whether that meant babysitting her grandchildren or their many pets. She never put herself first. June’s family was her reason for being. She never missed a birthday and found any reason to celebrate, so long as her family was with her. She worked tirelessly preparing for these events. They had to be just perfect. We were spoiled. We all looked forward to her Sunday dinners. She made sure there was always healthy, home cooked food, Celine Dion singing in the background and endless conversation. We will miss her cooking tips, and are still trying to master the recipe of our favorite dishes that say, put a little “bit of this” and a “splash of that” in there. June loved to take pictures, and could be found at each event with her disposable camera. She owned several digital cameras, but insisted that the disposable camera took the better picture. Sundays were a family day, usually spent going to church then a trip to Bert’s family farm to tend to the large garden Bert and June planted each year. June’s travels included fun filled camping trips with Bert and her young children and then, in later years, the comfort of flying with her family across Canada and the USA staying in comfortable hotels. Let’s just say she was done “roughing” it, but never done with her family. June also had a gift for remembering numbers. If we ever needed a birthdate or phone number for someone or somewhere, she was our go-to person. This year Bert and June would have celebrated their 60th anniversary. We will miss her so very much.
In honour of June’s memory and in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff on Ward 5B at St. Boniface Hospital for their professional care and compassion, and to Kelly, the day charge nurse on 5E.

Those we love don't go away
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
