Obituary of BARRY ALLEN HUGGINS, SR.
BARRY ALLEN HUGGINS SR
April 1, 1935 – May 7, 2015
It is with a deep, profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Barry Huggins at the age of 80. He made his journey into Heaven as he wished; peacefully and without pain.
Barry will be tremendously missed by his best friend and wife of 56 years, Gail; his children Eileen (Glen), Colin (Lisa), Barry (Elaina). He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Gailene (Jeff), Kailey (Mike), Blake, Ainsley, Lauren and Brooke, and great grandchildren Conner & Taya. His brothers Wayne (Phyllis), Dennis (Antoinette) and brothers in law Bob (Maggi), Michael (Leah) and Frank Lanyon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Barry was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Kathleen Huggins, sisters Lynn and Arlene and sister in law Jacqueline Lawson.
Barry started his career at The Hudson’s Bay Company in 1951 at the age of 16. He started out in the Bakery, but spent the bulk of his years there working in appliances. Barry had a beautiful singing voice and also belonged to the choir at The Bay. He retired at the age of 60 after 44 years of service.
In his retirement Barry enjoyed his free time doing what he loved best, building things. He was an extremely talented woodworker and built many things for himself and others. His generosity was beyond measure. He led a rich, full life with many friends old and new, and a very close family. He loved to golf and last summer joined a group of men who golfed weekly. He and Gail also belonged to the Wellness Centre and they enjoyed their mornings a few days a week with “the gang” having coffee and conversation after their workouts.
Gail was the love of his life from the day they met in 1955; nothing was too good for her. He loved to spoil her with flowers and gifts “just because”. Though it pains us to lose him we know they will meet again one day in Heaven. He was also a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather; always there to lend a hand, give advice, or just words of wisdom. We will miss you deeply and never forget your silly sense of humour.
