Obituary of JEAN HLADKYJ
JEAN HLADKYJ 1932-2015
After a courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday morning June 7th, Jean passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home with her daughters by her side.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, survived by her children Stephen, Michael (Lorelei), Cathy (Terry), and Mary (Simon). She also leaves to mourn her passing, her grandchildren Andrea (Trevor), Dustin, Eric (Meghan), Ian, Elysia (James), Tyler, Graham and Tori, and her two great-grandsons, Parker and Hudson. She is also survived by many family and friends in England. Jean was predeceased by her husband Peter, and her parents William and Edith.
Jean, better known as “Granny”, was born in Crewe, England on August 17, 1932. Jean met Peter following WWII, and soon after they immigrated to Canada and were married in 1952. They were both very proud of their new life in Canada, and began the journey of raising a family and home in Winnipeg.
Granny loved the simple things in life like conversation over a cup of tea, family dinners, tending to her flowerbeds, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She loved nature and the outdoors. Her greatest joy was her family. We will all dearly miss the comfort and support she so routinely offered when we needed it most.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the homecare workers and nurses that made it possible for our mother to spend her final days at home.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Avenue, with Father Isidore Dziadyk officiating.
If friends so desire, donations can be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
