Obituary of WALTER KOHUT
WALTER KOHUT
November 8, 1928 – June 8, 2015
Peacefully during a short stay at Seven Oaks General Hospital, our beloved father and husband to Nadia passed away.
Walter is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nadia; two sons Glen and Richard.
He was predeceased by his father Michael and mother Florence; sister Elsie Konarski and brother-in-law Walter.
Walter was born and raised in Ontario. In May of 1948 Dad began his 48 year career with the Canadian National Railway Company as a pipefitter, later joining Via Rail. An accomplished marathon runner, Dad kept running until he could no longer do so because of an injury. Walter was also the President of Local 479 for ten years representing the pipefitters and steamfitters. His heart was within the union always trying to make things better for its members. A loving father and husband always trying to do his best for his family. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. After retirement Walter spent most of his winters in Hawaii and Mexico, until he could no longer do so.
The family would like to thank Dr. Nolan Finlayson and the nurses of the fifth floor for their care and compassion. Having a sense of humour and a sharp wit about him that will greatly be missed. The family would like to thank all of his friends that dropped in to see him during this difficult time.
Donations gratefully accepted in lieu of flowers to the CancerCare Manitoba.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Friends are asked to say a prayer in his memory.
An avid sports fan he loved all sports, God be with you, may you be at peace Dear Dad.
