STEVE OGRODNIK

Obituary of STEVE EDWIN OGRODNIK

STEVE EDWIN OGRODNIK Peacefully, on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 with his daughter by his side, Steve Ogrodnik passed away at the age of 88 years at Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Shelley and son-in-law Rob, sister Jean (Russ), sister-in-law Ila, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly. Dad was predeceased by his wife Daisy, sons Barry and Linden, grandson Jeffrey, his parents Nicholas and Sadie and his siblings Olga, Anne, Helen, Norman, Mary and Lawrence. Dad was born in Thalberg MB and raised in Beaconia. After attending basic army training at Canadian Forces Base Shilo, he and Daisy moved to Levack ON to work at the mines, and there they made many lifelong friendships. Upon their return to Winnipeg after five years, Dad worked in various occupations before beginning his career at Winnipeg Transit as a bus driver. This allowed Dad to combine his passion for driving with his genuine fondness for people and willingness to assist others. In 1989 after 27 years of service Dad retired from a career that he truly enjoyed. Dad was a long time resident of East Elmwood where he loved being at home with his family, and there he created lasting friendships with his neighbours. He enjoyed being outdoors tending to his home, yard and garden and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Dad was very musical and played the violin, especially enjoying old time fiddle music and attending fiddling festivals. He had a great appreciation for music in general, enjoyed singing and was a wonderful dancer. Dad was a good and caring man, generous and hospitable, and strove to put others at their ease. He was also very determined and proudly self-sufficient and possessed a keen sense of humour and a quick wit which he willingly shared with all. He always had a joke, anecdote or funny quip at the ready and his laughter was contagious. Dad had a compassionate and empathetic nature which was not just reserved for family and friends but extended to those he came in contact with. Thank you Dad for everything. We love you and will miss you always. The family would like to sincerely thank the doctors and staff of Concordia Hospital for their outstanding care and the attentiveness that Dad received. He appreciated your compassionate care more than words can express. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB, with interment following at the Victoria Beach Cemetery.
