Obituary of ANDREW ZUK
Andrew Zuk
Peacefully on August 1, 2015, Andrew Zuk passed away at the Holy Family Home, at the age of 92 years. Andrew was born on November 20, 1922 in the village of Salaszi, Poland, to Wasyl and Maria (Naunko) Zuk. At an early age, he worked on the family farm until illness struck both parents. In 1939, Andrew immigrated with surviving family members to Romania. He served in the Second World War in the Ukrainian Army before being repatriated postwar to the United Kingdom.
In 1951, with the sponsorship of his brother Harry and wife Anna, Andrew came to Canada, settling in Winnipeg. He worked for the CPR until retirement in 1986. For the next decades, Andrew travelled extensively, to Ukraine and Russia, as well as visiting England, Australia and many parts of the United States and Canada. His close friends included James Taylor, John Zuk and Mike Prystupa (all deceased). He enjoyed gardening, carpentry, church activities and visiting his many friends and relatives, both near and far.
Andrew leaves behind nephew Bill (Dianne), grandnephews Jeff (Joanna, daughters: Evelyn, Cecilia) and Christopher, along with close relatives in the Ukraine: Oksana Demchuk, Maria Romaniuk, Hanna and Irena Benyouk, Luba Waschyshyn, Natalia Supiana and Vasyl Synovsky,
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. followed by a reception. Interment will take place at Holy Family Cemetery.
The family extends special thanks to the staff at Holy Family Home and medical staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care over the last years.
