Obituary of JOSEPHINE BERNJAK
JOSEPHINE (JOŽEFA) PEPCA BERNJAK
On August 7, 2015 Josephine passed away at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 82 years.
Josephine (Jožefa), Pepca Bernjak was born April 18, 1933 in the town of Golavabuka, Slovenija. Seeking a better life for her family, Josie and her husband Rudy, moved to Winnipeg in 1954. She had a resolute work ethic, proving to be a valuable employee and manager in a variety of positions, including many in the food industry. In 1967 Josie bought her own restaurant, “Josie’s”. After selling the restaurant in 1978, Josie became a real estate agent, real estate investor, and eventually began breeding and grooming dogs. Josie possessed a great love for all animals but had a special affection for dogs. Josie had an unwavering dedication to her friends and family, and loved cooking for them. She was an active member of the Slovenian community.
Josie is survived by her sister Anica Žvikart and family in Slovenia, her son Ferdinand Bernjak and daughter Daniela Salmen; Ferd’s wife Susan and their five children Lori (Blair), Kris (Kim), Carly (Evan), Andria and Steven, as well as her dearly loved great grandchildren Hailey, Sophia, Isla, and Madelynn. Josie was looking forward to the birth of her fifth great grandchild in September. She was predeceased by her husband, Rudy, and her son-in-law, Ray Salmen.
