Obituary of MURIEL MARTIN
Muriel Martin (nee Leslie)
February 18, 1923 – September 13, 2015
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Muriel Martin at Kildonan Personal Care Centre on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the age of 92. Muriel was predeceased by her husband Gordon, her parents and all of her siblings. She is survived by her children, Doreen (Rob), Guy (Doreen), Diane (Ed) and Sandi (Bob) as well as 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Muriel was very proud to have served with the Royal Canadian Air Force, WD, during the Second World War. In 1953 she married Gord and together they raised their family in East St. Paul creating many wonderful and lasting memories. Muriel was a very active member of the Henderson Highway Legion Branch 215, where she took on the roles of Secretary and Treasurer for the Ladies Auxiliary and spent many years assisting in the fundraising efforts of the Poppy Fund. She then went on to spend many years on the Executive Committee for the Legion, including the position of President and was awarded a life membership and Meritorious Service Award. In all, Muriel volunteered tirelessly for the Legion for over 50 years. Muriel and her family enjoyed summers at their cabin in Otter Falls, camping trips, knitting and was an avid reader. She very much enjoyed the company of her children and any excuse was made to have a party, spend an evening going to movies and munchies, trips to Minneapolis, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Another very special person to Muriel was her sister, Rita and they spoke by phone two or three times a day. After Rita’s passing, Muriel never stopped missing her and spoke of her often. The family would like to thank all who visited and provided exceptional care during her final years. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of her life will be held for Mom at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made in Muriel’s memory to the Manitoba Chapter of the Osteoporosis Society and www.osteoporosis.
